about gclc

Established in 1989 to provide cost-effective tutor training, the Genesee County Literacy Coalition is a non-profit organization of groups and individuals dedicated to improving literacy levels in Flint and Genesee County. We are a 100% volunteer organization with no physical location. We survive only on fundraising, small community grants, and donations.

We help children and adults with zero/low-level literacy in reading, math, English as a Second Language, GED assistance, and employment readiness training. We also provide training and support to empower local literacy providers. We collaborate and network among agencies to facilitate funding, resources, and to create awareness.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, meetings were held at the Coalition provider's locations. Current monthly meetings are virtual on the third Friday from 10:00 am-11:00 am (except during the months of July and August).
