Genesee County Literacy Coalition (GCLC) is excited to announce its upcoming community event, "Promoting Literacy for Better Health Outcomes," to be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Gloria Coles Public Library. This free event is open to the public and aims to empower individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively navigate health systems and make informed decisions that lead to healthier outcomes.

In today's complex healthcare environment, understanding how to advocate for oneself, family, and community is crucial. This event will focus on the vital role literacy plays in improving health outcomes and ensuring that everyone can access the care they need.

Participants will have the opportunity to hear from Dr. Christina Anagonye, Executive Director of Uloma Immigrants' House, who will present important information on medical law and share information from a doctor’s perspective as it relates to patient care. Additional topics covered during the event include medical customer service, ethics compliance, and patient care under Medicaid and Medicare. Each attendee will receive a copy of the patient bill of rights, equipping them with the tools to better understand and assert their rights within the healthcare system. The event will conclude with a Q&A.

Improving literacy is a key component in achieving better health outcomes. This event is designed to provide the community with the resources and knowledge they need to make informed health decisions and advocate for their well-being. For more information about the event, please visit www.gclcliteracy.org or contact us by phone at (810) 243-3349.
