Genesee County Literacy Coalition would like to recognize the recipient of our 2023 Danielle Brown Scholarship, Suranjan Hardy. After dropping out of school three times, Suranjan enrolled with Success Virtual Learning Centers of Michigan at the age of 21 to complete his diploma. Motivated by fatherhood, Suranjan maintained full time employment at Culver’s while completing his schoolwork and raising his daughter. This June, Suranjan achieved his goal and graduated with the Success Virtual Learning Centers of Michigan class of 2023.

Suranjan was nominated due to his hard work, kindness, and going above and beyond to support others. While turning his life around for himself and his family, he also became an outstanding role model for others.

Suranjan credits his success to self-motivation, discipline, and never giving up. He wants others to know to never stop striving for their goals, the sky is the limit, and words can’t express the feeling of making yourself proud. We all fall, but it's how you get back up that matters most.

Suranjan plans to continue his education by pursuing his CDL-A and Chauffeur’s licenses. After completion, he will gain employment in the field and eventually he plans to own a trucking company. GCLC is proud to award Suranjan with this scholarship and to celebrate him on his pathway to success.

GCLC would also like to thank everyone who contributes to make this scholarship possible. We thank our doners, volunteers, providers, and the students that continue to inspire us. Visit the Danielle Brown Scholarship page and follow us to learn more ways you can engage, support, and make a difference!
